In the interest of connecting all the dots of this every expanding music business I'd like to
introduce you to friends of mine, Robert Campbell and Cailin Green. They have a folk duo
called (fittingly) Campbell and Green. I've had the pleasure of doing a couple of shows with these fine humans and they have real knack for the house concert genre. They even host house concerts in their beautiful theatre that Robert built in their basement!
They travel light, play good music, are lovely guests and would be a fine addition to the
roster of touring artists you have going out.
Thanks everyone! Hope all is well in your worlds. Vive la musique!
Best, Ian
Such a lovely concert in our living room last Friday. I was happy that more listeners came than I expected. Campbell + Green were wonderful guests, appreciating all the little things I arranged to make their stay special. And they made the concert special for us. We learned about songwriting and the stories behind the songs. Cailin and Robert sang together, singly or in alternately in a song. They accompanied each other on guitar and keyboard or piano or even keyboard and piano at the same time. It was a very varied and beautiful concert. I still have pictures in my mind of players in Las Vegas (Lady Luck), an Iranian refugee in Germany (Will It Feel Like Home), a mystical place (Avalon) and so much more. Van Gogh couldn't have painted it better. (Yes, this is a hint to the song "A love I Never Knew")
Thank you, Cailin and Robert!

My overall view is that it (East) is a lovely album. I love all the instrumentation, and as you might expect, my compliments to the drummer. Cailin & Robert do have super voices, particularly on my two favourites - Cailin on MILLION YEARS: Very sweet and close up intimate venue song. She seemed right next to me (specially on my BOSE)
Robert on SMILE ON YOUR FACE: His voice is just about perfect here. You have to be really good to succeed this well at that level of singing.
Also loved AVALON. Cailin great again. Lovely clarity. ... Anyone who can write and perform new material and make it fresh and lovely after all that has gone before, has my vote and admiration. It's great stuff for more intimate venues.

Nova Scotia's Campbell & Green are certainly adults, happily owning up to being 50-somethings. They act like it in some ways, and act like kids in others. For the latter, the married couple have taken to a new life as full-time musicians with youthful zeal, releasing albums, changing their lifestyle, hitting the concert trail, doing lots of promotion, essentially becoming brand-new people. They moved from B.C. to Nova Scotia a few years back, and started song-writing with a goal of making albums and doing lots of originals at shows. They'd always played and performed in previous careers, but this was like starting out fresh, except with lots of smarts and experience built up as well. Now on album three, the duo are doing all their own material and setting out on a summer of live dates.
They don't try to sound like kids in their music though; no hip-hop or electro beats, instead they do what they love, which is a warm folk and pop sound, heavy on the melodies, harmonies and easy-on-the-ear playing. Keyboards, acoustic guitar, and the voices are the main sounds, the couple sharing leads. Cailin Green handles the pretty numbers, such as Way Too Easy, Robert Campbell gets more of the up tempo ones, but they both get to have fun on numbers such as Love Makes One and Goin' To Tahiti. It's a nice blend between melodic numbers and clap-along entertainment.
Songs like One Simple Glance would have been sure-fire hits on pop radio in the '70's; a lovely melody, easy to remember and emotional lyrics, sweet harmonies. Campbell & Green are filling a void for fans of mellow and pleasing pop. That audience that has always been out there but rarely does a group come along that's making new music for them. The new album When One Door Closes gets its launch show Saturday night, June 13 at the Music Room in Halifax.

I really loved your guys variety and especially the parts where your voices came together and just harmonized with each other perfectly! Have a wonderful tour and it was a real pleasure to meet and listen to you.

Sounds like... Laid-back Michael Kaeshammer (piano based jazz-pop, Canadian). Esp. 'Smile on Your Face' (you might try to flog it to Michael, those changes sound right down his alley). "Walk a Mile" sounds like a laid-back jazz version of Rita McNeil. A touch of Anne Murray. Canadiana...

"...enjoyed it from start to finish. I even had it on repeat a few times. Campbell +Green make a fantastic duo, their vocals meld together perfectly..." - Canadian Beats, Review

- Folk, pop, country, blues and jazz all play their part in the album’s make-up and provide plenty of auditory variety. Both voices are high in the mix, placing emphasis on the songs. They begin with “Life Is a Beautiful Thing”, which sets out their agenda from the off, and Green’s vocal provides a perfect vehicle for the sentiments set out. It makes a genuine statement and their enthusiasm is infectious.

A little like Lady Antebellum, a little like the Eagles in some places... a pinch of John Mayer and maybe a dash of Gordon Lightfoot?

They travel light,
Robert and Cailin put so much love into their music, and all they do. They live with passion and enthusiasm, and share that with their audiences in concert, and at Roca House, their musical home.

“They do a wonderful job,” DeMille said of the duo and their rapport....
